Peck was born in Beaumont, Texas and moved to New Mexico when she was twelve
years old. She began drawing and painting as a child and has studied many
different mediums of art. Since 1969, her works have been exhibited in
galleries in New Mexico and Texas. She returned to Texas in 1981 and
presently resides in Fort Worth, Texas.
Since 1989, Peck has taken the images of her paintings and recreated them on
dusters, capes, jackets, T-shirts and other mediums which are sold under the
trade name, ³Body Canvases². She considers ³Body Canvases² as painting that
can be worn. ³Body² Canvases² are marketed in Texas, California and New York
and have appeared on MTV, in Dallas and New York Theatrical productions and
in national magazine advertisements. Peck is published in ³Fiber arts²
Design Book 5.
COMMUNITY
Through the Young Audiences of North Texas Peck is actively involved with
community programs that teach young people art techniques and appreciation.
She has also conducted art workshops for young people at the YWCA ³Family
Gateway² and Mexican Cultural Center. Peck has been a contributing designer
to the Designers Industries Fashion Foundation for AIDS Dallas Collections
sponsored by Levi Strauss, Neiman Marcus, Absolut and Old Navy. DIFFA
selects prominent fashion designers and artists to create fashion apparel
from denim jackets which are auctioned at a yearly benefit to raise money
for the Dallas Aids Resource Center. Peck is an active member in the
following artists associations: The Firehouse Studio and Gallery, the
McKinney Avenue Contemporary, Dallas Visual Art Center, Irving Art
Center-Arts Connection, Fort Worth Community Arts and The Texas Artist
museum.
ARTISTS STATEMENT
Growing up in the desert of New Mexico, I thought everyone painted. I was
always exposed to local artists and artists that came to New Mexico to
study. Painting is the vehicle I use to express many of my ideas that spring
from my dreams and meditation, creating strength and health which can be
drawn upon to bring greater happiness and contentment to our lives. Through
my art, I am constantly trying to tap those hidden resources and communicate
to the viewer of my work some of those feelings of joy and expansion.
